Neighbors reducing wildfire losses

Every year, devastating wildfires burn across the Pacific Northwest. While these fires will continue to happen, there are things we can do to make our properties, and our community, much safer from wildfire.

The national Firewise USA® program is here to help you get started. It empowers neighbors to work together in reducing the wildfire risks in our community. Helping community members join together to be more proactive in wildfire preparation is what the Firewise Communities program is all about. The program provides ways to learn how to make important improvements to your home and how to create a “defensible space” on your property.

At the initiative of our local Fire Marshall Dave Flood, we started a local chapter to serve the Northeast Multnomah County communities of Corbett, Springdale, Aims, Latourell, Bridal Veil, and Larch Mountain.

How you can participate

There are many ways you can participate: from small changes to your home, all the way to larger property protection projects, to helping others that might need a neighborly hand or professional service.
